Boost past 100%
Some apps are simply too quiet at full volume — a badly mastered video, a conference call from a bad microphone. Boost lifts them past unity gain.
Apply a boost
Click the multiplier on an app’s row. It cycles 1× → 2× → 3× → 4× → 1×. Right-click it to jump straight to a value.
At 1× the app plays at normal level and the control sits quiet. Anything above 1× turns it the accent colour, so a boosted app is obvious in the list.
The limiter
Amplifying a signal that is already near maximum would clip it. Barry runs a soft-knee limiter after the gain, so peaks are rounded off rather than squared. You get the loudness without the distortion.
Boost is still amplification: at 4× a quiet recording will bring its noise floor up with it. Use the smallest setting that does the job.
Boost and mute
Boost is remembered per app alongside its volume, and it survives a restart. Muting an app dims the control but does not clear it — unmute and the boost is still there.
